How to Apply a Plastic Window Shades ?
Your older windows or those with loose seals can let a constant stream of cold air into your home.
Sitting by a drafty window is not only uncomfortable, it’s also a stark reminder of how high your next heating bill will be.
To make things a little easier, pick yourself up a plastic sheeting kit made for windows. Work on one window at a time and hang the
plastic film on the outside of your windows.
1. Gather your materials and have them at the ready for your convenience. Here’s what you’ll need.
2.Measure each window. In order to be most effective, the plastic film needs to cover the entire window frame.
Measure the window pane from top to bottom and side to side.
Always begin and end your measurements in the middle of the frame surrounding the window pane.
3.Using your utility knife, cut the plastic film to size.
To give yourself some leeway, add a few inches to the length and width of each piece of plastic film before cutting it.
4.Attach the double-sided tape to the window frame surrounding the window pane, leaving the backing on until you are ready to hang the plastic film.
The rule of thumb is to place the tape in the center of the window frame.
5. Remove the backing from the double-sided tape and leave a little leeway on the plastic film before sticking it to the tape. To leave a
little leeway, let about an inch of film overhang where the plastic meets the tape.
Make sure the plastic film is taught before sticking all sides to the tape. To shrink film, use a blow dryer which will give the plastic film a
tight finish. Run the blow dryer over the entire piece of plastic film and watch it shrink.
Step 6.Trim the excess plastic film with your utility knife once the entire sheet has been hung. This prevents excess plastic from
annoyingly blowing in the wind.
